TAU - UZH Joint Virtual Workshop on Digital Societies

An Opportunity for Collaboration | October 14-15

TAU - UZH Joint Virtual Workshop on Digital Societies | October 14-15

A virtual workshop between Tel Aviv University (TAU) and the University of Zurich (UZH) took place on October 14-15, 2020.

The idea of bringing the two institutes togehter was a joint endeavor by Prof. Raanan Rein, former TAU vice president, prof. Juval Portugali of TAU City Center, and prof. Abraham Bernstein of UZH.

On September 2019 a meeting was held in Zurich between representatives of Tel Aviv University (TAU) and the University of Zurich (UZH).

TAU and UZH found many parallel research efforts, particularly in emerging opportunities for collaboration between TAU and UZH's Digital Society Initiative (DSI) in the fields of Smart Cities / Mobility, Data Science / Data Management, and Digital Democracy / Communication.

It was then decided organize a joint workshop under the theme of Digital Societies.

A workshop joining researches of various academic disciplines from both institutions was to take place on the Spring of 2020 in Tel Aviv. The outbreak of Covid-19 slightly changed the nature of the event, but not it's goals.

The virtual workshop opened with welcoming notes from prof. Milette Shamir, TAU vice president, and prof. Christian Schwarzenegger, UZH vice president.

After a self presentation round, the participants were separated to two meeting rooms according to their cluster affiliation.

The Smart Cities / Mobility cluster was moderated by prof. Itzhak Benenson of TAU, and the Digital Democracy / Communication cluster was moderated by prof. Fabrizio Gilardi of UZH.

The concluding meeting highlighted the promising collaboration potential between the two institutions. Updates are soon to come!
