Talia Margalit is a senior lecturer at the David Azrieli School of Architecture, Tel Aviv University and architect specialized in urban design and urban history. Her research addresses scholarship dealing with the politics of urban design and planning, and she issues questions of citizenship in Israeli cities.
Talia published on these topics in journals like Cities, Planning Perspectives, Planning Theory and Practice and IJURR, among others. She co- organized two international seminars on urban citizenship with colleagues from Israel and from Humboldt University Berlin, and co- edited a Journal symposium on Urban Citizenship and the Right to the City (with Talja Blokland, Christine Hentschel, Andrej Holm and Henrik Lebuhn, forthcoming, International Journal of Urban and Regional Research).
She is the author of several refereed book chapters, including a wide angle chapter summing the historic and theoretic components of Israeli urban planning (in Hebrew), and co- authored a chapter named "The challenge of regulating private planning initiatives" (with Nurit Alfasi) in the book "Private Urban Planning: Opportunities and Limitations", recently published by Edward Elgar. Her recent papers issues the history of segregating urban planning in Tel Aviv- Jaffa and its continuation in current urban beautification and flagship architecture.
She is currently conducting a 2 year research on “planning decisions and the construction of public interest”, funded by the Israeli National Science Foundation and co-directed with Adriana Kemp.
